April 23, "Poem"

by Chris, age 17

MY SON,
STOP GAZING AT ME

AND WALK STRAIGHT AHEAD
I KNOW THERE IS NO ROAD AHEAD
BUT, OPEN YOUR EYES
AND WALK THROUGH THAT FOG OF REALITY

KEEP RUNNING MY SON
KEEP RUNNING FOR INTO THE UKNOWN
YOU MAY STALMBLE UPON YOUR FORTUNE OF HAPPINESS

IGNORE THE MOTURATED BODIES
MY SON
IGNORE THE EASY PRESSURES
THAT APPEAR AND DISAPPER

OPEN YOUR EARS WIDE
AND HEAR THE MESSAGE
OF THE WHISPERING VOICES
OPEN YOUR EYES AND AVOID THE DITCHES SON,
BEING ALIVE IS NO EASY TASK

Chris,

Buddy, you are an excellent young poet. I remember some of the poetry I wrote when I was 17 and I promise you that they weren't nearly as powerful as that one. It's a brave thing for a young man to write poetry and even more brave for him to show it to people. Thank you for letting us see it and good luck in the future. Keep writing, please!

Great prose, hard to express emotions sometimes in words, but you do a good job.

Chris, I wanted to know if it would be okay with you if I share your poem with my students. I am a teacher in Los Angeles (USA) and many people never think that there is suffering and danger in the US, but my students are always at risk just walking from their homes to school. They sometimes have trouble concentrating on their studies because they are worried about what may happen to them, their friends, or their family. Maybe you could write something to explain what you see around you and what has inspired you to write your beautiful poem. I think your words will open ears and touch hearts worldwide. Bless you.
